What to do and who to call

Terms of use

Informational only — not veterinary advice

Informational only — not veterinary advice. VetER Now does not diagnose your pet or recommend treatment, and nothing on it — including the general guidance on our Guide page — replaces a veterinarian’s judgment. If your pet’s life may be in danger, go to the nearest emergency hospital and call on the way. For suspected poisoning, call ASPCA Animal Poison Control at (888) 426-4435 (a fee may apply).

Status and wait times can be wrong

  • Status and wait times come from hospitals and from pet owners. They can be incomplete, out of date, or wrong, and conditions at a hospital can change in minutes.
  • A listing is not a promise that a hospital will see your pet. Always call ahead.
  • Hours, addresses, fees and other details may change; confirm them with the hospital.

Ranking

Results are ordered by open now, then live status, then distance. Hospitals cannot pay to change their position.

Using the service fairly

  • Only check in at a hospital you are actually at, and answer honestly.
  • Don’t use bots or scripts, overload the service, or try to get around its limits or security.
  • Hospital status links are for that hospital’s staff only; don’t share them.

Your emergency plan

Your plan is stored only on your device. You are responsible for keeping it accurate, and it can be lost if you clear your browser data.

No warranty; limits of liability

VetER Now is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or harm arising from using or relying on it, including decisions about where or when to seek care.
